Many people don’t even know How to take a screenshot on Laptop, Computer or Android Mobile Phones. Regardless of the reason, Windows has several built-in utilities to capture and save screenshots and is only a few clicks away from the keyboard.
Using the Standard Keyboards
- Quick Tips:
The Print Screen button on your keyboard copies your current screen. Then you can insert it into the image processing software with Ctrl + V.
Press Alt + Print. The screen captures only the currently selected window.
The screenshot is easy, regardless of the version of Windows you are using. There are only a few steps, provided you have not manipulated the default keyboard commands, and you should already have access to the entire image processing software you need.
- Capture the image
Assume the area you want to capture appears on the screen. Press the Print button (often abbreviated by the PrtScn button), usually in the upper right corner of your keyboard, to take a screenshot of your entire screen. You can also press Alt + Print to take a screenshot of the active window. If you are on a laptop, you may need to press FN + Print Screen if your laptop is assigned a different function. There will be no noise or any other screen display, but the resulting image will be saved to the clipboard as a PNG file. If you are using Windows 8 or 10, click the Windows Key + Print screen to automatically save a full-screen view in the “Screenshots” folder in your image directory. If you have installed Dropbox, the screenshot will automatically appear in your Dropbox directory under screenshots.
- Open Paint
Click the Start button, browse to the Windows Accessories folder, or the Accessories folder when you are using Windows 7, and then click Paint. The icon shows a color palette with a brush on the right but depends on your operating system. In Windows 8, press the Windows key to open the Home screen. Then, click the down arrow in the lower left corner, press Ctrl + Tab, or drag the mouse pointer out of the center of the screen to access the application view. From there choose a color. In Windows 10, you can open the Start menu, switch to All applications, and scroll through the alphabetical list to Paint. The three Windows iterations also include the Windows search, which allows you to search for Paint by searching for “Paint”.
- Insert the Screenshot
After opening, click the Insert button in the upper left corner of the program, select Edit, then Insert, or press Ctrl + V on the keyboard to insert the screen. Again, the exact navigation and formulation from OS to OS will vary slightly, but the key combination remains the same.
- Save the Screenshot
Make the desired changes, e.g. crop the image in a specific area and click the Main File option in the upper left corner. Select “Save As” enters the new file, select a backup location, and select the desired file format from the drop-down menu. In most cases, the JPG format works well, but you can choose from a variety of other formats such as PNG, BMP, GIF, and others. Click the gray save button in the lower right corner when you’re done.
